![]() ![]() You get some fast travel spots to get around it faster but they're pretty annoying to use since driving into the fast travel point causes a minor pause/load, then you have to choose where to travel to, which causes another minor load and then at the new destination there's a minor load as to get into your vehicle again to start driving. ![]() There's also a whole driving outdoor area but it's pretty bland and boring and there's not much to do. It felt pretty unsatisfying and should have been balanced better but I just wanted to finish the game at this point. I went from having to use an inventory full of heals and still dying to not even getting hit and utterly destroying him. The second to last boss I got down to a single hit of health but then he killed me so I used the option to switch to easy mode for the fight and absolutely stomped him. I may have just been under-leveled by the end of the game (lvl 38) but the final 2 boss fights were infuriating. ![]() If I was getting my ass kicked there was no real strategy other than to do better the next try there wasn't enough depth to be able to try a different strategy or anything. The bosses are still really challenging but the combat lacked some depth which made all the bosses feel very similar. I think fighting the bosses in Yakuza is one of the best parts of the games but I just wasn't feeling it as much with this game. I'm not sure if I missed something or what. It just seemed really underpowered to me to the point of being useless. The moves that I chose would have cooldowns of 50+ minutes and only kill a few normal goons or power you up for a few seconds. There's a system for special moves but I didn't find it very useful. You do eventually get a move which makes it generally unnecessary to use these all the time but it comes a little too late and you'll already be fatigued by the cinematics at that point. You get to do these cool finishing moves that make guys explode in gory cinematics. In the beginning, while the visuals are fresh, it's very cool to explore and see everything for the first time. However, the cell-shaded visual style of the game looks really good and is probably one of the best parts of the game. Unfortunately, you can immediately pick out the ones that are new just based on the visual design they don't really fit with the style of the rest of the original characters and look like someone used Borderlands as a visual reference for their designs. The problem is that the story ends up feeling pretty cobbled together with a bunch of characters shoehorned in.īecause of this, there is a mix of characters that existed in the original manga and ones that have been designed and created for this game. This game takes all the major story beats from the movie and I assume the manga and creates a kind of alternate reality version of the story. So I've seen the Fist of the North Star anime movie but that's really all I know about the property. I knew it's an utterly bonkers ultra-violent anime with a Mad Max vibe and I knew the game was developed by the studio that does the Yakuza games which I enjoy. I bought this game because I'm vaguely familiar with Fist of the North Star.
